Problem

Families USA sought to better understand how to support its partners’ goals and priorities.

To strengthen its support for a diverse network of partners, Families USA, a nonprofit advocate for health care consumers, needed to better understand the challenges, priorities, and needs of its collaborators. This project aimed to gather insights directly from partners to inform Families USA’s strategic direction and ensure its efforts are responsive and impactful. NORC’s role was to design and conduct in-depth interviews that would surface actionable insights to guide future programming and engagement.

Solution

NORC conducted 10 in-depth interviews with Families USA partners to inform strategic planning.

NORC collaborated with Families USA to develop a research framework and interview guide focused on partners’ goals, challenges, and opportunities. We conducted up to 10 virtual, 60-minute interviews with key informants from Families USA’s network, including members of its task forces and partner organizations.

Participants were recruited with attention to diversity in geography, organization type, and stakeholder role. Interviews were transcribed, de-identified, and prepared for analysis. NORC designed it to yield clear, actionable findings that Families USA could use to refine its strategy and develop future research.

Result

Findings guided Families USA’s future initiatives and partner engagement.

The project resulted in a set of cleaned, de-identified transcripts and either a rapid summary report or a detailed thematic analysis, depending on the selected option. These deliverables provided Families USA with a nuanced understanding of partner perspectives, including emerging themes, priority areas, and opportunities for deeper engagement. The findings informed Families USA’s strategic planning. By centering partner voices, this project strengthened Families USA’s ability to lead and support impactful work nationwide.
