Improving Transitions to Kindergarten through Systems-Level Coordination & Collaboration
March 2022
This video illustrates how coordination and collaboration between Head Start programs and kindergartens can improve the transition for students, their families, and their teachers.
The transition to kindergarten, an important milestone for children and their families, is increasingly seen as critical to a child’s success in elementary school.
This video illustrates a theory of change that highlights the two-sided nature of successful transitions from Head Start programs to kindergarten—the sending side (Head Start) and the receiving side (kindergarten). Policies, professional supports, perspectives, and practices offer the mechanisms and infrastructure that, when shared across the two systems, can lead to successful transitions for children, their families, and their teachers. This project is a collaboration between NORC, Child Trends, and the National P3 Center, funded by the Administration for Child and Families’ Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation.
