The World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) will host its 79th Annual Conference in Mexico City, Mexico.

NORC is a longtime WAPOR sponsor and partner, supporting advances in public opinion research and survey methodology worldwide. The conference brings together researchers from academia, government, and the private sector, along with pollsters, survey methodologists, and public opinion professionals, to examine how political, social, and cultural contexts shape public opinion across societies.

Sessions will explore challenges and innovations in international public opinion research, including survey measurement and sampling across diverse cultural and governance contexts, the influence of digital media and emerging technologies, and methods for collecting reliable, comparable data.

NORC’s presentations will address these topics from various perspectives, examining public attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) across countries, competing narratives in U.S. e-cigarette prevention campaigns on Twitter/X, guidelines for online probability-based panels, and challenges of conducting surveys in politically complex settings. In addition, senior fellow Tom W. Smith will present on WAPOR’s founding history, highlighting the organization’s longstanding role in advancing the field.

Drawing on data from the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) and NORC’s General Social Survey (GSS), principal research scientist René Bautista will explore public comfort and concern with AI across 29 countries, including attitudes toward its use in employment, driverless cars, and robotic surgery. The findings reveal both differences and commonalities in how people perceive emerging technologies. Read the full report.

We invite you to connect with NORC’s presenters during the conference to learn more about their work and exchange ideas with colleagues across the field.
