NALAC National Latinx/é Arts & Culture Survey

For Participants
A national survey of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations.

This survey will take a snapshot of the vibrant landscape of arts and culture organizations founded, led by, and serving Latinx/é people across the United States and Puerto Rico.

Responses will provide better data to funders and decision-makers, as well as boost local, regional, and national advocacy efforts to ensure the arts and culture sector is equitably resourced and well-funded across the United States and Puerto Rico.

Based on survey findings, The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) will develop resources, including an interactive digital toolkit intended to assist arts and cultural organizations in their advocacy efforts. Survey participation will inform these resources and help ensure they meet the needs of arts and culture organizations.

Did you receive an email invitation to participate? Your responses are crucial.
We’ve asked staff at Latinx/é arts and culture organizations across the United States and Puerto Rico to answer questions about their organization’s community reach, programs and services, staffing, and funding sources.

FAQ

The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures is the nation’s premier nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to the Latino arts field. Since 1989, NALAC has delivered programs that stabilize and revitalize the Latino arts and cultural sector in the United States via funding, leadership training, convenings, research, and advocacy.

NORC at the University of Chicago (NORC) is NALAC’s research partner in fielding this survey. NORC is an independent, nonpartisan research institution that helps federal agencies, decision-makers, and nonprofits make better decisions through data and analysis.

This survey is funded by the Wallace Foundation, which has worked for decades to help arts organizations broaden and diversify their audiences and to expand arts opportunities for youth.

This survey is designed to be completed in 15 minutes. You may start the survey, pause, and resume where you left off using the link included in your invitation.

We are pleased to offer a $40 virtual gift card to the first 1,500 respondents. Upon completing the survey, you will be directed to select a gift card. We are pleased to offer gift cards from many major retailers, as well as a prepaid Mastercard, which can be used anywhere debit or credit cards are accepted.

A person at your organization who is knowledgeable about programs, organization funding and financial health, and staffing should fill out this survey. If you do not possess this knowledge, please consult other staff members from your organization as needed to answer survey questions accurately. You can preview a PDF copy of this survey on our website to see what questions will be asked so you can gather the information you’ll need to complete the survey.

If needed, you can also forward your invitation email to a colleague knowledgeable about these topics and they can complete the survey instead. Please note that they will need to use your organization’s pin provided in your invitation email to complete the survey. This pin is unique and can only be used once, but it will allow someone to start, stop, and complete the survey at their own pace.

If you prefer to complete the survey in Spanish, upon entering the survey with the pin, you will find an option to switch from English to Spanish. Si prefiere completar la encuesta en español, al ingresar con su pin, encontrará una opción para cambiar el idioma del inglés al español.

If you received an invitation to take the survey, your contact information may have been in NALAC’s current database of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations, in another similar database, or you may have been referred by a peer who knows of the work your organization does.

Survey findings will only be used for summary reports that contain no names or other identifying information. Your name, your organization, or any identifying information connected to survey responses will never be released to the public.

Your data will never be sold, marketed, or used commercially. NORC will securely maintain the data solely for the purposes of this study. NORC has been a leader in data collection and security for more than 80 years. NORC uses highly secure internal network storage to prevent data loss, corruption, and unauthorized breach, as well as to administer least privilege, password protected access rights, thus safeguarding sensitive information and individual privacy.

In addition to receiving a survey invitation and email reminders, you may be contacted by a NORC interviewer reminding you about the survey and encouraging you to complete it. NORC interviewers will identify themselves with their first and last name, as well as the name of the survey project or funder, the purpose of their call, and ask to speak with a specific person. When leaving a voicemail, NORC interviewers will leave specific information, including the survey name and a toll-free telephone number for this survey.

After the survey closes, we’ll release both a longer report and a short research brief highlighting findings, key learnings, and takeaways for the Latinx/é arts and culture field. All survey data will be reported in aggregate, meaning no individual respondent or organization will be identified.

Additionally, study findings will be available via an interactive website and a digital advocacy toolkit that will allow anyone to navigate the data and effectively use the information to advance the important work of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations.

Finally, if your organization is not already part of NALAC’s national directory of Latinx/é arts and culture organizations, it will be added.
