Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry Strategic Communications Initiative

NORC is leading a strategic communications contract with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a sister agency to CDC focused on environmental health. The project studies public perceptions of ATSDR and includes formative research and the development of a new branding plan, messages and materials to effectively communicate with ATSDR’s stakeholders and audiences, including health departments and providers, policymakers and members of the public in affected communities. The work has involved a study of how ATSDR is portrayed in legacy media and social media conversations to assess current perceptions of the agency, as well as interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders and audiences. Following implementation of the brand and rollout of new materials, NORC will conduct the evaluation of the strategic communications effort.
