Michael Meit of NORC at the University of Chicago Appointed to Editorial Committee of Public Health Reports

CHICAGO, Dec. 6, 2018 – Michael Meit, a senior fellow and co-director of the Walsh Center for Rural Health Analysis at NORC, has joined the editorial committee of Public Health Reports (PHR)—the official journal of the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General and the U.S. Public Health Service.

Published since 1878, the peer-reviewed PHR is a key resource for those working in the field of public health. PHR focuses on current and emerging topics in public health, including infectious diseases and their prevention, non-infectious diseases, environmental and occupational disease, and behavioral and social risk factors. PHR’s target audiences include public health professionals working in U.S government and private sectors and in other countries around the world.

According to PHR editor-in-chief Frederic E. Shaw, Meit will serve on the journal editorial committee for three years, providing leadership to PHR in the areas of rural health and public health practice, contributing his expertise to the overall success and quality of the journal, and recruiting and editing journal articles.

Meit brings to PHR over 20 years of experience studying public health systems at both the state and national levels. Meit has led public health systems research projects in the areas of accreditation, performance improvement, public health workforce, rural public health, public health financing, and emergency preparedness, among other topics.

His experience prior to NORC includes positions at the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the National Association of County and City Health Officials in Washington, DC. Meit then served as founding director of the University of Pittsburgh Center for Rural Health Practice and as co-director for rural preparedness for the University of Pittsburgh Center for Public Health Preparedness.
