Krysta Heaney-Huls

Research Scientist
Krysta studies health informatics, focusing on applying research to health care delivery and decisions.

Krysta is a qualitative methods researcher with over a decade of experience in health services research focusing on health informatics topics in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR), clinical decision support (CDS), data infrastructure capacity building, social determinants of health (SDOH), and interoperability. 

Krysta leads projects that implement and assess the integration of evidence into health care practice and policy. She has led the development of numerous resources that support the design, implementation, adoption, and scaling of patient-centered CDS and improve the standardized collection and integration of SDOH data in cross-sector care delivery. Krysta has also conducted several state and national assessments on the use of health IT and data standards meant to enhance interoperability and care coordination, using study findings to identify opportunities to improve data interoperability.

Prior to NORC, Krysta served in various policy and project management roles for the State of Illinois’ HIE programs, including HIE services strategic planning and evaluating HIE service use.
