Brian Fabes Joins NORC at the University of Chicago as Senior Fellow

Press Release

Fabes becomes NORC’s newest senior fellow in addition to role as executive in residence for two of University of Chicago’s professional schools.

CHICAGO, September 3, 2020 — Brian Fabes, PhD, joins NORC at the University of Chicago as a senior fellow. In July, Fabes was appointed as executive in residence at UChicago’s Booth School of Business and Harris School of Public Policy. As a key member of both institutions, Fabes will work closely as a liaison between two of UChicago’s impactful schools to strengthen interactions with NORC.

“Brian brings to NORC a wealth of experience in studying the role of capital markets and corporate capitalism and their impacts on local economies and policymaking,” said Dan Gaylin, president and CEO of NORC. “He also has extensive knowledge of the Chicago business and civics community, which will be very valuable to NORC as we develop new research and partnerships in these areas.”

Fabes joins NORC after serving for 15 years as CEO of the Civic Consulting Alliance (CCA). During his time as CEO, CCA forged city-wide collaborations with public- and private-sector leaders and provided more than $125 million of pro bono services to governors, mayors, the county president, and leaders of most major public sector institutions. CCA and its partners have played a central role in many significant educational, public safety, health care, and economic development initiatives in the Chicagoland region over the past decade and a half.

“I’m excited to deepen the connections between NORC and the Harris and Booth schools at UChicago,” said Fabes. “My new position will provide me with the platform to closely study the impact national and global forces have at the local level and find the leverage points to make a positive impact in communities across the country.”

Fabes earned his PhD and BS in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Fabes is also managing director of Chicago's Corporate Coalition, a collaborative of firms testing ways to use their collective assets and capabilities to address economic inequities in the region.
