Peer Support Project

OWH launched the Mental Health Support for Peers Project in 2018 to develop an evidence-based framework to provide mental health support services to peers. Peer facilitators and counselors ("peers") are important components of various successful public health activities. Peers are regularly employed in stressful and potentially (re)traumatizing contexts that can adversely influence their mental health needs. NORC is conducting a scan of existing activities, resources, and policies that provide mental health support for peers for the purpose of developing a framework for mental health support activities for peers. NORC will locate existing models and resources for mental health support for peers and identify common elements and/or gaps of any existing models and resources. The framework will be employed in the provision of technical assistance regarding mental health support for peers to OWH partners and awardees.
