Florida Transparency Initiative

In an effort to provide timely, reliable information about costs and quality for consumers to buy value in the health care marketplace, Florida law requires insurers and health maintenance organizations, providers, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, diagnostic imaging centers, health care practitioners providing non-emergency hospital services to calculate their prices according to a single standard based on agreed upon service bundles.

To that end, NORC is partnering with the Health Care Cost Institute to create an online health care transparency tool where consumers can find and compare the price of common health care services in their area. The tool will: (1) calculate prices based on data from actual insurance claims that have been paid to Florida health care providers; (2) help consumers estimate their out of pocket costs before they receive a health care service; and (3) facilitate comparisons across health care providers based on both price and quality by visiting Agency for Health Care Administration’s existing health care information website (FloridaHealthFinder.gov) enabling Floridians to make better informed decisions when seeking health care services.
