Established in 1885, the American Economic Association (AEA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, scholarly association dedicated to the discussion and publication of economics research. Members come from academe, business, government and consulting.
As more attention is paid to the critical topic of assessing and improving campus climates, it is increasingly important to understand climates not only within individual institutions but within entire academic fields. The AEA's climate survey will be broader than any campus survey and will address interactions at places of work, the environment at conferences, and the perceived environment felt broadly among those in the profession, including professionals and students.
NORC is developing a climate study on behalf of the AEA to gain a better understanding of the professional climate in the field of economics, particularly for women and members of underrepresented groups. The survey draws upon other successful climate studies developed by NORC but is customized to address the unique needs of the AEA. The survey will be conducted with AEA members during the last quarter of 2018. De-identified, confidential data will be shared with AEA leadership.
