Resident Relocation Surveys Data and Reports

The Resident Relocation Survey is a longitudinal study of Chicago Housing Authority Leaseholders that are part of the Plan for Transformation. The survey collects information about the relocation and resettlement experiences of current and former public housing residents in the Phase II (2002) and Phase III (2003) cohort of movers. We offer student datasets and a researcher dataset.

    Student Datasets

Three datasets are available to anyone interested in becoming familiar with the contents of the dataset.  They are meant to give students an opportunity to see if the data are useful to their research interests.  As such, the data have been altered to protect respondents’ identities and are, therefore, not meant to be the basis of analyses for reporting about this population. If you find the data useful to your research interests, please complete a Data Sharing Agreement for access to the dataset prepared for researcher use (see explanation below).  To access the student datasets and codebooks, please click on the following links:

    Researcher Dataset

The researcher dataset includes data from all five rounds of data collection and a codebook. These data have undergone a disclosure analysis to determine the risk of identifying a particular individual in the study.  As a result, some data are top-coded (e.g. age) or included in broader categories (e.g. highest year in school completed) or excluded from the file altogether (e.g. sex of leaseholder). Anyone interested in using the researcher dataset must first agree to the conditions, and provide the information outlined, in the Data Access Agreement form. Please submit the signed agreement to haggerty@norc.uchicago.edu.

    Questionnaires and Reports

The questionnaires for each survey and the NORC reports associated with each round of data are available by clicking on the links below.
