The American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession recently launched a research initiative, ABA Women of Color in the Legal Profession Study, to examine the experiences of female attorneys of color. The Commission seeks to:
- the experiences of women of color in law firms,
- the foundations upon which women of color make career choices, and
- the perceptions that women of color carry about the opportunities available for them in the legal profession.
- Identify the “best practices” used by legal employers and by women of color to maximize their opportunities for success.
- Assess how women of color’s experiences compare with those of men and Caucasian women.
On behalf of the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession, NORC collected both qualitative and quantitative data using a self-administered questionnaire to members of the ABA, as well as focus groups with women of color attorneys in various cities.
