The Workshop on the Social Psychology of Survey Participation, funded by the National Science Foundation, seeks to build upon the groundbreaking work of the St. Michael's conference and to take advantage of recent theory and research in social psychology related to persuasion, cooperation, motivation, person-perception, and interpersonal interaction, to examine the issue of survey non-response in detail.

The principal investigators expect that the application of social psychology to survey participation will lead to a deeper understanding of the cognitive tasks confronting respondents and to methods that will help promote it.  The project seeks to catalyze new research in survey methodology and to use the complicated real life application of social psychological  influences to enrich social psychology.
