NORC at the University of Chicago is currently conducting the first-ever survey of school leaders nationwide designed to better understand efforts to boost college-readiness of our public school students.
The National College-Ready Survey (NCRS) asks questions about issues such as the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, new models of teaching and learning, innovative technology, teacher evaluation, and strategic use of data to manage and improve student performance. Until now, there has been no systematic approach to tracking uptake and diffusion of college-readiness reforms across the nation or over an extended period of time. NORC is surveying a nationally-representative, randomly selected sample of some 4000 school principals and superintendents to better understand their current practices and perspectives.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is funding the survey. "We're excited to take the pulse of school leaders across the country and hear what they are doing to bolster college success for the nation’s public school students. We hope the findings from the NCRS will inform not just our work, but the field broadly," says Vicki Phillips, Director of Education, College Ready at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
