NORC has been awarded a subcontract from the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) to assist with the conduct of the 2012 Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA). Funded by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), the CLETA will generate national statistics about all state, regional, and local law enforcement training academies operating in the United States. The information collected pertains to the characteristics of recruits, staff, curricula, facilities, and policies and is used to help to improve the nation’s understanding of law enforcement training. The results from the census will be useful for federal, state, and local governments as they assess the areas in which additional resources for development, improvement, or expansion of law enforcement training capabilities may be necessary.
NORC will assist PERF by providing recommendations for questionnaire formatting; developing and maintaining a tracking system to provide ongoing case status; conducting extensive follow-up efforts with non-responding agencies to achieve the desired response rate; and assessing the reliability of survey items.
