NORC routinely designs and conducts simulations to provide estimated statistics for a variety of public policy purposes. NORC has conducted a number of simulations for the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), developing and testing a small domain estimation software engine for estimating employment in Illinois counties. NORC has conducted simulations for Indian Trusts to estimate parameters of posterior mixture distributions in meta-analysis, and to evaluate designs based on replicate and median sample balancing compared to designs based on deep stratification or selection with probability proportional to size. NORC also conducts experiments on its large-scale, ongoing surveys such as the SDR and the GSS; these experiments include testing of questionnaire items, sampling procedures, andnew forms of survey administration (e.g., use of the Internet).
