Geographical Information Systems

NORC currently uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for a wide variety of survey methodology and research-related tasks. Activities enabled or facilitated by using GIS include data visualization, geographical data processing including census data, geocoding of addresses, caseload assignment, and the automated production of maps for in-person field interviewing. NORC has also been a leader in using global positioning systems to enhance in-person field interviewing in rural areas.
