NORC at the University of Chicago Names Juan C. Mendizabal Vice President of Field Operations

​CHICAGO, Jan. 29, 2018 — Juan C. Mendizabal has been named vice president of Field Operations for NORC at the University of Chicago. In this position, Mendizabal will be responsible for leadership of NORC’s national team of field interviewers and field managers, including establishing strategy, setting direction, and promoting innovation in their work, as well as oversight of recruitment and training.

“The Field Operations of NORC lie at the heart of its capacity to carry out surveys in substantive areas and important policy domains both domestically and globally,” said Ron Jurek, executive vice president and CIO, Information Technology at NORC. “Over the past 20 years, Juan Mendizabal has earned increasing levels of responsibility in his work, including leadership of large and diverse national and global field research teams. We are fortunate that a person of Juan’s experience and capacity has joined us to lead this vital work.”

Prior to joining NORC, Mendizabal was senior vice president for U.S. Field Operations for the Nielsen Company, responsible for strategy and direction across the firm’s four major product lines in its work to acquire data from more than 500,000 participating households.

NORC Field Operations involves direct contact with people from every walk of life to obtain information that contributes to a deeper understanding of a vast array of issues. Its work and the analysis of its findings are central to policy decisions at every level of government. NORC is widely known for the large-scale surveys it does for agencies of the federal government, surveys including the General Social Survey, National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, Medicare Current Beneficiary Study, and many more. NORC is also home to AmeriSpeak, a nationwide community of people who have agreed to participate in nationally representative surveys.

Mendizabal is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, with an MBA from the University of South Florida. He is a Lean Six Sigma Executive Black Belt and holds a Process Reengineering Certification. He will work remotely.
