NORC at the University of Chicago Plans to Hire 150 Interviewers in Wichita

Press Release

Leading research organization offers quality, flexible, part-time jobs.

WICHITA, Kan., Aug., 2017 — An independent affiliate of the University of Chicago, NORC is an objective, non-partisan institution with a mission to conduct high-quality research. With a current staff of 400 in its Wichita call center, NORC is looking for 150 new employees to join its Telephone Surveys and Support Operations (TSSO) staff as interviewers. Being an interviewer with NORC is a great second job, and the flexible hours work well for students, retirees, teachers, and others. Interviewers are vital to the organization’s nationwide survey research operation. The research call center is located near the intersection of 21st Street and Amidon at 2021 North Amidon, Suite 1300.

"Wichita is lucky to have NORC as a part of our dynamic employer mix,” said Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell. “They currently have 400 employees and plan to add 150 more by the end of the year. I look forward to watching them continue to grow and succeed in our community.”

In Wichita, NORC conducts vital work for a diverse array of research studies and clients, including The Associated Press as part of The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. The AP-NORC Center conducts research on such topical issues as partisanship and the media, Americans’ views on power and influence in Washington, and long-term care for the elderly. Wichita interviewers are also currently working on the National Immunization Survey, which produces high-quality estimates on the rate of immunization among young children in the United States and is considered a critical contributor to the prevention of childhood diseases.

“We have been in Wichita since the summer of 2016, and now it is time to expand our team. We are proud that we’ve had 34 internal promotions since we opened,” said Jenny Kelly, the Vice President who oversees TSSO at NORC. “We are looking to hire friendly people with good communications skills who can reach out to people around the country on important issues. Why not get paid to do a job that can have a meaningful impact on society?”

The starting rates for interviewers are:

  • English—$10 per hour
  • Spanish bilingual—$10.50 per hour
  • Opportunities for 50 cent pay increase or promotion within the first 9 months of hire through mid- and end-of-year reviews
  • Paid training—no prior experience necessary

NORC interviewers talk to people all over the United States from every conceivable walk of life to obtain information on issues such as health care, employment, education, and many others. To be an interviewer, English proficiency is required. Written and verbal Spanish proficiency is a plus.

NORC’s work—and that of its interviewers—can have a meaningful impact on society. The data interviewers gather helps legislators and other decision-makers involved in setting policy make informed decisions that affect the welfare of all Americans. NORC interviewers conduct in-depth interviews, but they never promote or sell commercial products or services. NORC is a not-for-profit organization.

NORC offers a collegial and professional work environment, flexible hours, and competitive pay with opportunities for advancement. For more information on employment opportunities at the Wichita survey research center, please go to workthatmatters.norc.org.
