Virginia Tech Shootings Rekindle Gun Control Debate

The report issued last week by General Social Survey (GSS) Director Tom W. Smith on public support for gun control received additional attention this week in the wake of the shootings at Virginia Tech. The survey data showed that Americans are more in favor of gun control now than they have been in the past and that a smaller percentage of Americans own guns than in the past. The report was cited by the Wall Street Journal on April 21 and the Mankato Free Press (MN) ran a syndicated story by the Christian Science Monitor on April 22.
