Smashing Social Barriers
The
Washington Post
published a Reuters story on
January 18, 2007
by political correspondent John Whitesides about public attitudes and tolerance among
U.S.
voters. The article quoted several researchers including Tom W. Smith, Senior Research Scientist and Co-director of NORC’s General Social Survey (GSS). The GSS contains a core of questions that are asked in each round, thereby allowing analysts to monitor trends in American attitudes. Several GSS questions ask about the survey respondents’ tolerance of those whose race, gender, or religion differs from their own.
