Laumann Receives ASA Award for Research on Sexuality

Edward O. Laumann

SAN FRANCISCO -- NORC Board of Trustees Chairman and University of Chicago Professor of Sociology Edward O. Laumann was honored this weekend as the recipient of the American Sociological Association's Simon and Gagnon Award for statistical research on sexuality.

The award was made on Sunday, August 9, 2009 by the Section on Sexuality during the ASA's annual meeting. The award commemorates decades of research and writing on sexualities by Professor William Simon (University of Houston) who died on July 21, 2000, and his longtime collaborator, Professor John Gagnon (SUNY-Stony Brook). The Simon and Gagnon Award honors career contributions to the study of sexualities as represented by a body of work or a single book.
