Depositing data into the NORC Data Enclave provides a number of benefits for data producers.
- Preserving Data in Perpetuity. All datasets and metadata are stored in a standardized Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) XML format. This format is compatible with widely used statistical analysis packages in the research community and ensures that your data will not become obsolete or unusable. Converting datasets to the DDI standard greatly facilitates interoperability; provides richer content; has single and multiple document purposes; enhances online subsetting and analysis; and improves precision in searching.
- Increased Access to and Value of Important Microdata. The Data Enclave’s outreach program brings widespread national and international attention to your organization's priorities and promotes scientific inquiry of those areas of concern. Including data in the Data Enclave may also be a convenient way of fulfilling grant obligations to make your research available to the research community.
- Keeping Your Data Safe. Data Enclave staff assume full responsibility for safeguarding all deposited data and take advantage of cutting-edge technological solutions to ensure that your data are kept secure and confidential. This enables data producers to focus on data collection and analysis rather than administrative tasks associated with supporting external users.
- Improving the Dataset Quality. Data Enclave researchers are encouraged to add value to the datasets with which they are working. When researchers submit proposals to obtain access to the enclave, they are encouraged to demonstrate how their research will provide value to data producers.
