University of Chicago social science faculty and graduate students conduct research within NORC's Academic Research Centers. The Centers provide office space for faculty and their research assistants as well as computing services, training programs, workshops, proposal development support, grants administration, and other specialized services to support the collegial, interdisciplinary environment to meet the needs of individual projects.
NORC's Academic Research Center and its wider relationship with the University of Chicago are mutually beneficial in many ways. Joint appointments provide benefits to both university faculty and NORC staff. NORC provides university faculty with stimulating intellectual challenges on important research questions, support and administration of research projects, an interdisciplinary and collaborative work environment for faculty, and research training for graduate students. The University's Division of the Social Sciences is particularly prominent in this connection.
Additional benefit is derived from agreements and informal collaborations between NORC and other institutions affiliated with the University. The most important for NORC's work are:
The Biological Sciences Division
Center for Health and Social Services
Chapin Hall Center for Children
Division of the Social Sciences
Irving B. Harris School for Public Policy Studies
Journal of Labor Economics (JOLE)
Pritzker School of Medicine
School of Social Service Administration
University of Chicago Medical Center
