The Economics, Labor, and Population department is the institutional home of NORC’s large-scale flagship surveys covering a wide range of factors that contribute to the nation’s economic and social life. It is the institutional home of the Society of Labor Economists and cosponsors (with the University of Chicago Press) the Journal of Labor Economics.

Provides objective research and policy analysis of the U.S health care system.
Coordinates NORC's international work on issues that cross departmental and focus area boundaries.
Conducts research with the overarching goal of protecting and improving the health of communities and populations. A related program is:
NORC created the Security, Energy, and the Environment (SEE) Department to focus on key areas of public interest, areas that are of growing concern. The security, energy, and environment domains are increasingly linked in public perception and debate. The issues in any of the three areas are becoming woven into the fabric of the other two, and the SEE Department will support them in a seamless fashion.
